Please make a donation or become a member, to help the work of the Friends of Halfway African American Cemetery.
We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to restore historic Halfway African American Cemetery and preserve it for future generations. This cemetery, founded in 1897, is the burial place of some 400 citizens of Hagerstown. It was abandoned and lost until 2020, when we began to uncover it.
Donations to Friends of Halfway are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Funds that we raise pay for ongoing maintenance of the cemetery, such as tree care and weekly mowing, and future projects such as gravestone repair, fencing, and ground-penetrating radar and other non-invasive survey techniques to locate unmarked graves.
We use grant income where possible and we hold an annual fundraiser (Roots & Stones in September). But individual gifts are also important! Thank you in advance for supporting this special place.
